3 Things Stealing Your Wash Day
1 - Skipping or Rushing through Detangling
Tangles turn into breakage during the Shampooing process causing mechanical stress on the main hair shaft which weakens it.
The Solution: Finger detangle, or use a wide tooth comb, pre-poo (pre Shampoo) with something that has slip like flaxseed gel, or marshmallow root. Or try a hot oil treatment with Olive Oil, Avocado Oil, or Argan Oil to make detangling easier before Shampooing.
2 - Using the Wrong Shampoo
Harsh cleansers like SLS strip the hair and scalp of its natural oils leaving hair dry and brittle. This can cause a dry and irritated scalp by stripping away its natural protective oils and moisture barrier.
The Solution: Use moisturising Shampoos, and Shampoos with mild surfactants such as GlucoTain. Try to pre-poo with oils to protect the scalp and hair and use a clarifying Shampoo every 4 - 5 weeks to reset the hair with a clean slate. Makes sure to use a Shampoo that doesn’t contain SLS.
3 - Not Deep Conditioning
Hair loves elasticity and protein. Through daily styling, combing, and manipulation your hair loses these features and needs revitalising otherwise it can lead to breakage.
Deep conditioners are formulated with hydrolysed protein and humectants to restore elasticity, protein and moisture balance to the hair. This protects the hair’s integrity and gives it that moisture-protein balance your hair needs to be healthy so you can retain length, softness and manageability.
The Solution: Use a Deep Conditioner after every Shampoo to restore softness, nutrients, and oils that were stripped during the shampoo process. Condition with conditioners that contain hydrolysed proteins, humectants, rich oils and butters and have clean ingredients to prevent breakage and maintain strength.
Protect what you have grown from your scalp. Wash day should be a day you enjoy and get to see the progress you have made. Not a day of anxiety and stress.
Your Wash Day should Fortify your hair not break it down.
