How To Guide: Shampoo Bars
Our Step-by-Step Guide to using our Shampoo Bars
Prep Your Strands:
Brush your hair while dry to remove tangles before you start washing
Soak Thoroughly:
Saturate your hair with warm water to remove previous build-up.
Lather Up:
Either rub the bar between wet hands to create a cloud of foam or glide it directly onto your roots in a circular motion. Part your hair in sections to reach your scalp and concentrate the bar directly on the scalp. Massage your scalp with the tips of your fingers or with a scalp brush. Move the foam down the length of your hair or glide the bar along the hair shaft.
Double Cleanse:
If your hair is very dirty or oily, wash twice. The first wash breaks down surface oils while the second produces a deeper, fuller lather.
Rinse, Rinse, Rinse:
This is a very important step. Natural soap takes longer to rinse out than synthetic detergents so spend some extra time to make sure everything is rinsed out fully.
Transition Period
If you’ve just switched from using liquid shampoo to our shampoo bars, your hair might feel a little different. Your hair may feel waxy or heavy. Don’t panic! This is the transition period.
What’s Happening - The Science
Commercial Shampoos have used Silicones to coat your hair, giving it a fake shine, and sulfates to strip it dry. Your scalp has been over producing oil to compensate for this. Now that you’ve stopped the cycle, your scalp needs 2 - 4 weeks to reset its’ natural oil production.
Here are 3 Tips to Speed Up the Detox
Lather is Key:
Ensure you’re working up a good foam. If it’s not bubbling, add more water not more product. Ensure the hair is saturated with warm water.
Lukewarm Water:
Avoid using scalding hot water which can make natural oils feel sticky.
Condition:
Use one of our conditioners to help balance the pH of your hair.
Don’t give up! After 3 weeks of using the bar you should see and feel the difference!
Trust the process - once detox is complete you’ll be left with healthy hair!
